Pin It, Scoop.It, Tweet It

What to do with all the AWESOME resources you discover on Twitter? @weaver5th and @kkmathias have the answer, “Pin It, Scoop It, Tweet It.”

"Pin It, Scoop It, Tweet It" became the theme of the day at our Techie Tuesday on curating a topic with Pinterest and Scoop.IT.   Both Pinterest and Scoop. It are electronic ways to organize and manage web resources.

Pinterest is a visual way to creatively organize the web, collaborate, and share resources.  This virtual pin board is intuitive to use and manage.  The Pin It button slides on to the bookmarks bar of the browser, making it simple to Pin ideas as you find them.

Scoop. It works similarly. Find a great blog post or article, just click Scoop. It on the toolbar and the article is scooped onto your topic page.  The page has its own URL making it easy to Tweet or share the link.

By mid morning, we had a room full of pinning, scooping, tweeting teachers, and by afternoon a cacthy little jingle was created. (check out the YouTube Video of the Pin It , Scoop It, Tweet It song).

So what are you waiting for? Pin It, Scoop. It, Tweet It!

  1. I really enjoy Pinterest. I started using it for recipes and photography, but I can really see the benefits for education and classroom activities and lesson plans. In the article, "4 Ways to Use Pinterest in Education", it mentions using Pinterest with students. I hope the district will eventually make this available on student computers because I can see the benefit of having students share pin boards.

  2. I started using Pinterest a couple weeks ago. I am currently using it for my own personal curation of things I find that I want to revisit later. It's a great way to place ideas without all the paperwork and post-it notes in my office. I am excited to find out how I can use this with my students!

  3. I've been on Pinterest for a few months now. I don't have a lot of time to "play" on it since right now it's just for recreational purposes. However, I know I would spend more time on it if I found a more educational purpose for it! Denise Richards

  6. I have been using Pinterest for several months in both my personal and professional life. I'm a very visual individual who loves to see a picture of how an idea can be executed before I put it into action. I have already tried several educational ideas in my classroom and love the abundance of ideas. Where has Pinterest been all my life? Love it!

  8. My wife started getting on Pinterest a few months ago, and being a guy, I didn't want to join it for fear of what my friends would think...lol!

I never thought about using Pinterest for educational purposes. I am glad that resources like this are available to us, and by using Pinterest, we are able to look at resources others have found beneficial. Pinterest is a terrific collaboration tool, and I'm looking forward to getting more involved in it.

  10. I have been on Pinterest for a few months and love this great organizing tool for ideas. I admit it is addicting at times so I have to make sure I log on when I have a few minutes! I am anxious to add more to my education boards and follow more education friends so we can share more ideas!

  11. I am new to Pinterest, but so far it seems like it would be fairly useful. The visual element is a big plus for me, and I'm looking forward to seeing how other educators are implementing this tool in their classrooms.

  13. I am looking forward to using pinterest more. A co-worker of mine turned me on to it. It will be very helpful in the art education world. Lots of great visuals that are easier to view than twitter from what I have observed.

  14. I have just started using pinterest and I am excited to start using it more. I love getting a visual for the ideas. For me it is much easier to implement something that I have seen, rather than just reading about the idea. I also like how easy it is to keep the things that I find organized and that I can quickly go to the board that I put them on!

  15. I love Pinterest! I started using Pinterest to gather ideas for decorating and cooking. Since many of my friends are in education I quickly found that they were pinning very useful ideas for school. When I saw useful or fun ideas I emailed them to colleagues who were teaching that grade level or who may also find it interesting. Soon other teachers were using Pinterest and now I'm not emailing ideas as much because they have started pinning too! It is contagious!

  18. I think Pinterest is a great tool for teachers to organize different ideas and lessons for their classrooms. It allows them to keep websites organized by different lesson themes, which allows for quick and easy access.

  19. I started using Pinterest after my friend introduced it to me. At first I was hooked on all the different craft/do it yourself projects. As soon as I began using Pinterest more I began looking at all the resources that were offered regarding education. I found all the different posters and graphic organizers very helpful and could see myself using them all in some way within my classroom. I can't wait to use more of the resources that I have found.

  20. Pinterest started off as another "addicting" website for me, almost overwhelming. But with organization, which Pinterest helped me to do, I was able to prioritize what I wanted to use Pinterest for. I was primarily using it for family/recipes/craft ideas, but have now branched out a little more and have found great educational pins, too. I love everything about it!

  21. Pinterest is such a great way to capture those "aha" ideas quickly and actually organize them in a useful way. This from a librarian with a file of clippings from magazines and journals that I never remember to look at....

  22. I am slowly falling in love with Pinterest. I found it very overwhelming and messy at first. Now that I am more familiar with it and have my own account - I am finding it much easier to use and find ideas especially from fellow teachers/SLPs. Now if I only had the time to explore, print, and prepare more resources!

  23. I can see how this could be used in a classroom setting. The piece about copyright issues would make me nervous if I taught.

  24. I think I am really going to like Pinterest. It will take me awhile to figure out the best way to organize things, but I will most definitely like it as a way to keep all the random resources straight that I seem to collect for my curriculum. Right now I just save them in my favorites bar, but I seem to put them there and forget about them because there is no visual to help me.

  25. I'm new to Pinterest, so I'm still getting familiar with it. I can definitely see the benefits of having a place to gather and organize ideas for the classroom. But it can also be quite time-consuming to sort through the numerous resources available, and I'm a little concerned about the potential copyright issues.
